The Trinity MAT Family
Trinity Multi-Academy Trust began with a single, brand-new school built in the hills of north Calderdale, Trinity Academy Halifax which opened in 2010. Its mission was to revolutionise the quality of secondary teaching and learning in the area after a decade of underperformance and exclusion.
A universal commitment to excellence from the very start has seen this Church of England academy transform behaviour and results and achieve two Ofsted Outstanding grades.
Trinity Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) was formed in 2015. A Church of England trust, we welcome students of all faiths and none. We believe that every child can succeed, and having proved what works in our flagship academy, we focus on creating and transforming schools into places where children love learning and teachers teach with passion.
We control our growth with care so that every new member school receives the maximum benefits. Today, the MAT embraces one sixth form, six secondary and three primary academies. Although every Trinity MAT academy is united by common values and a commitment to teaching and learning excellence, each one is also a unique part of its local community, with its own distinct character.
The trust also encompasses Trinity Institute of Education, West Yorkshire Maths Hub and is the home of White Rose Maths, whose schemes and professional development are used extensively nationwide and beyond.

Our Family of Academies:
Trinity Academy Bradford
On 1st February 2021 Trinity Academy Bradford (formerly Queensbury Academy) joined Trinity Multi-Academy Trust.
The new name signifies a brand new start within a thriving Trust. Trinity Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) brings high standards, expertise and our core values, together with the right resources and goals to ensure our students make the same excellent progress as at other MAT schools
Trinity Academy Bradford achieved the title of ‘the most improved school in the Bradford area in 2022’ within
just 18 months of joining TMAT. This is a fantastic achievement and well-deserved recognition for all the students and staff at the school.
Trinity Academy Halifax
From the very start, expectations at Trinity Academy Halifax were set high. This Church of England academy welcomed students of all faiths and none, inspiring everyone with its core values of Empathy, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility, rather than religious doctrine.
Leaders and staff aspired to excellence for every student, with an emphasis on high quality teaching and a clear Behaviour Policy that enables calm classrooms and excellent learning.
In just three years, the academy had transformed behaviour, teaching and learning, along with the future prospects of its students.
An inspection 2013 declared Trinity Academy Halifax to be Ofsted outstanding in every area – student achievement, quality of teaching, safety and behaviour, leadership, management and overall effectiveness.
In 2019, Trinity Academy Halifax was awarded the World Class Schools Quality, making it the first TMAT academy to become a provider of ‘world class’ education.
Trinity Academy Grammar
Sowerby Bridge High School became Trinity Academy Sowerby Bridge in September 2017, heralding a new and exciting journey for the school and its local community. In September 2021 the academy took the bold decision to draw on its heritage to become Trinity Academy Grammar.
In 2016, Ofsted had graded the school as ‘inadequate’ and it ranked in the lowest 15% of all UK schools. On joining Trinity MAT, standards changed dramatically.
Within the first two years, Trinity Academy Grammar rapidly rose to the top 1% of the most improved schools in the country.
Trinity Academy Grammar was also awarded the World Class Schools Quality Mark in 2021.
Trinity Academy Cathedral
In 2015, the former Cathedral School in Wakefield was failing both financially and educationally. Trinity MAT reached out to the school with help and support in 2016, and in 2017, Cathedral School joined the Trust as Cathedral Academy. The school is now named Trinity Academy Cathedral to be in line with other MAT schools.
The results were astonishing: by 2018, Cathedral School had progressed from failure to the TES 2019 Secondary School of the Year!
In July 2022, Trinity Academy Cathedral was awarded Ofsted outstanding in all areas. This achievement is a fitting testament to the high standards and inclusive culture that the academy espouses on a daily basis.
Trinity Academy Leeds
A brand new school opened in September 2021, with a Year 7 intake of 240 places, with students starting their secondary education in a state-of-the-art new building.
Students benefit from an ambitious and inspirational curriculum underpinned by a strong focus on Literacy and Maths. Trinity Academy Leeds is a school that champions the Arts as all students have the opportunity to study Dance, Drama and Music from the very start of their educational journey.
Trinity Academy St Edward's
A brand new school opened in September 2021, with a Year 7 intake of 180 places.
The academy offers the Barnsley community a broad, balanced curriculum that will focus on STEM subjects, setting the highest aspirations and delivering outstanding outcomes for all students.
Trinity Sixth Form Academy
Trinity Sixth Form Academy opened, in its new state-of-the-art building, in the heart of Halifax town centre in September 2020. The institution was initially The Maltings College, an inadequate post-16 centre that joined the Trust in 2016.
In 2022, the sixth form was awarded Ofsted outstanding in all areas. After years of underperforming post-16 outcomes across Calderdale, Trinity Sixth Form Academy has bucked that trend and has become the place to attend for ambitious and hard-working 16-18 year-olds in the locality.
Trinity Academy Akroydon
Akroydon was the first primary school to join Trinity MAT. Catering for children from nursery age to 10, the school’s results were poor and it needed a new direction.
Akroydon became part of the Trust in 2017 and, inspired by the Trust’s vision and approach, the hard work soon brought results. In 2019, Akroydon Primary Academy was named as Calderdale’s Most Improved School. From January 2021 the school name changed to Trinity Academy Akroydon to be in line with other MAT schools.
Trinity Academy Akroydon is also the only feeder school to the Ofsted outstanding Trinity Academy Halifax, offering an excellent MAT journey from primary to secondary school.
Trinity Academy St Chad’s
The second primary school member of the Trinity family, St Chad’s joined the Trust in 2019. The Academy’s strong Christian ethos is focused on providing outstanding education and care that supports every child, no matter what their faith.
In 2023, Trinity Academy St Chad’s was awarded the World Class Schools Quality Mark. It was also the first Calderdale primary to receive the ‘world class’ accreditation.
Trinity Academy St Peter's
The latest primary school member of the Trinity family, St Peter’s joined the Trust in September 2020, starting from nursery through to Year 6.
In addition to its schools, Trinity MAT has developed three other leading organisations:
Trinity Institute of Education
Trinity Institute of Education (TIE) trains new teachers and supports schools across the region with direct support and training of the highest quality.
